This sensory play activity was an absolute hit, featuring kids ‘favorite’s’: water and jelly!
We started by freezing miniature dinosaurs inside ice cubes. Then, we prepared a sensory tray by adding our two-ingredient fake snow, which we previously shared in our blog here. This created an Arctic-inspired section to represent the Ice Age. Next, we placed the frozen dinosaur ice cubes on the snow.
For the next part of the activity, we made jelly and divided it into separate bowls, adding different food colouring to each. We poured the jelly into shaped molds and plastic egg shapes, creating pretend mountains and volcanoes.
To make things even more exciting, we used bath-safe scented jelly. While this step is optional, it added an extra layer of fun. We also saved eggshells, filled them with jelly, and added miniature dinosaurs inside. These acted as “hatching eggs,” which the kids loved breaking open to reveal the baby dinosaurs inside.
The water-splashing dinosaur activity was a pleaser! My little one especially enjoyed holding the frozen dinosaur ice cubes and melting them to rescue the tiny dinosaurs trapped inside. Watching the ice melt into water was one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience.
We used a rechargeable, water-splash bath dinosaur and light-up dinosaurs that were both adorable and durable—Emily had a great time with it, and we’re sure your little ones will too. You can check out where to find these toys below.
For an added touch, we placed seeds in a container, added food colouring, and shook the container until the colour was evenly mixed. This was a simple yet fun addition to the sensory tray.
And that’s all you need to create this fun and engaging sensory play experience!
